Being an member of the West Grey Police Service Auxiliary Unit is a demanding and rewarding volunteer position. You will be a part of a group of dedicated community volunteers.

Auxiliary officers are required to complete a total of at least two 8 hour shifts per month and are also required to undergo and successfully complete regular training which includes:

– CPR and First Aid Training
– Use of Force and Defensive Tactics
– Firearms

The primary duty of an Auxiliary Police Officer is to perform police duties when supervised by a Police Officer. Additionally, some areas where Auxiliary Police Officers are often used include:

– Assist with Parades
– Traffic Control
– Assist at Community Events such as Fishing Derbies
– Canvas and Search for Missing Persons
– Participate in information kiosks and booths at Fall Fairs, Christmas in the Country and other Community Events
– Assist with the Annual Christmas Food and Toy Drives

The Basic Requirements for the Position of Auxiliary Police Officer are as follows:

– Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada
– Be at least 18 years of age
– Have successfully completed 4 years of secondary school or equivalent
– Not have been convicted of a criminal offence for which a pardon has not been granted
– Have a valid Ontario Driver’s Licence with a good driving record
– Be physically able to perform the duties of an Auxiliary Police Officer
– Must have Standard First Aid and Basic CPR training
– Be of good moral character and habits
