On June 10, 2009 at 6:08 a.m. members of the Markdale and West Grey Fire Service and the West Grey Police attended at a residential fire on Grey road 12 in Glenelg Twp, West Grey. The fire was fully involved upon arrival. The fire was suspicious in nature and no determination could be made as to whether or not anyone had been trapped inside. As a result the Office of the Fire Marshall was contacted and attended. An outdoor growing operation of marihuana was discovered on the property.
On June 11, 2009 a Controlled Drugs and Substance Act warrant was executed on the property by members of the West Grey Police Service. 173 marihuana plants were seized. The fire site was excavated with assistance from members of the fire service and it was determined that no one had been trapped inside the residence at the time of the fire.
The cause of the fire and the criminal investigation is continuing. The residence on the property was totally destroyed to an estimate value of $100,000.00

43 Year old St Thomas man faces a charge of Fail to provide breath samples.
On June 12, 2009 at 10:30 p.m. West Grey Police attended to Blue water campground in Bentinck Twp West Grey, after a report of a van striking a trailer in the campground. The driver of the van was located and showed signs of impairment, he was arrested and transported to the West Grey Police station were he refused to provide samples of his breath. There were no injuries, the parked trailer received minor damage.

West Grey Police are investigating a Break Enter and Theft that occurred on the West Back Line Glenelg Twp. West Grey. Person(s) unknown entered a seasonal home between June 7 to June 11, 2009. Once inside several items were smashed and others removed, some of the items stolen are, a pre 1500 BC green Roman Glass. 1700 BC horse and rider from Iran vase, 350 BC 2inch bowl from Palestine and a 350 BC 4inch bowl from Palestine. Est value of the property is over $2000.00. Anyone with any information about these items are asked to contact West Grey Police.
