Occurrence Type: Collisions
Occurrence Number: GR – 18
Details
Highway 4 between Hanover and Durham was closed due to a number of collisions last Wednesday morning. Chief Rene Berger says that high winds and drifting snow resulted in poor to zero visibility at times. Grey Road 4 was closed from Hanover to Durham for three hours while police investigated these collisions, and there was the opportunity to plow and salt the affected areas, while waiting for winds to diminish. Berger reminds drivers that just because temperatures are warmer than they have been, you still need to take extra caution when driving. He says that increased temperatures during the day create wet roads which, in turn, create icy roads when the temperature dips low at night. He says black ice is also a danger.
