Occurrence Type: THREE HURT IN MONDAY MORNING CRASH
Occurrence Number: GR – 96

Details

A motor vehicle collision Monday morning south of Neustadt has left three people, including an infant, with minor injuries. Originally, it was believed at least one person had been transported to a larger hospital outside the region via ORNGE air ambulance, however West Grey Police confirmed Monday afternoon that was not the case. “A motor vehicle was travelling on Grey Road 10 when the driver lost control on the slippery road, entered the ditch and rolled,” Constable Janet Schumacher of the West Grey Police Service said in an e-mail. “There were two ladies and one infant in the vehicle. The infant was properly restrained in a car seat. The ambulance transported the three to the hospital with minor injuries.” Schumacher added in a second e-mail that the injuries sustained in the crash did not warrant transportation via air ambulance. She said the helicopter had not been requested by West Grey Police, and, at that time, it was unknown who was responsible for sending ORNGE to the crash site. Hydro One reported 27 customers are without power following the crash which brought down power lines. The Hydro One website removed its service disruption alert for the area just before 4:30 p.m. Monday. A bystander near the roadblock where Grey Road 10 had been closed said his power went out around 10:15 a.m. The road was re-opened shortly after the helicopter left the scene. A snow squall blew in mere minutes after the ORNGE helicopter took off; prior to that, conditions were clear, however Grey Road 10 was still snow packed with some icy patches.
