A 19 year-old Owen Sound woman is dead following a single motor vehicle collision in West Grey early Sunday morning. Brogan Davis was identified as the victim. The collision occurred shortly after 3 am on Grey Road 12 in the former Glenelg township. The preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle was travelling on Grey Road 12 when it left the roadway. There were four people in the vehicle and three were taken to hospital in Durham. The 19 year-old was taken to hospital in Markdale and was pronounced dead upon arrival. Grey Road 12 from Baseline Road to Townsend Lake Road was closed until the accident reconstruction investigation was complete.

Occurrence Type: Elderly Woman Defrauded by Male Posing as Bank Branch manager

West Grey Police Service is investigating an incident that happened last Friday when an elderly resident was defrauded of approximately $5,000.00
The victim received a phone call from a polite, articulate man claiming to be the Durham RBC branch manager. who was investigating the bank’s tellers for stealing money during transactions. He said he was recording their activity and requested the elderly bank customer’s assistance.
After determining the balance in the victim’s account, he requested she withdraw a large sum of money in cash, explaining to the teller it was for a family emergency. She provided her clothing description to the suspect.
The money was placed in an envelope and the victim was then met by a second male, identified as Mr. Hamilton, outside the bank who then collected the envelope and left (presumably for the purpose of counting the money).
The suspect made a follow-up call to the victim thanking them for their assistance. The victim subsequently contacted the RBC to enquire about their money and were advised of the scam. Residents of West Grey and the surrounding counties should be aware of this scam and contact your local police service if experiencing a similar incident.
Suspect, Mr. Hamilton, is described as being a white male between 40 and 50 years old, 5”10″ tall, slim build, scruffy appearance, wearing dark non-descript clothing, glasses and a dark ball cap.

Occurrence Type: Break, Enter and Theft at HydroOne Distribution Station

West Grey Police Service is investigating a break, enter and theft that was reported on October 15, 2013. Officers were dispatched to a Hydro distribution station on Concession 2 NDR in the former Bentinck township. A HydroOne employee told police that sometime over the holiday weekend unknown persons broke into the Hydro distribution station and stole nine reclosure units. Reclosure units are canister type objects that act as circuit breakers. The approximate value of the stolen items is $22,500.00. Entry was gained by cutting a heavy-duty padlock on the vehicle gate.
