West Grey Police Services Board is pleased to announce the hiring of our new Chief of Police, Robert G. Martin. Chief Martin is replacing Chief Rene Berger who has recently retired from West Grey Police after a successful career in policing.
Rob brings with him almost 30 years of municipal police service with York Regional Police and a passion for community policing. Rob’s career profile is diverse including expertise in collision investigations and reconstruction, his secondment with the R.C.M.P as a Training Facilitator for the Drug Evaluation and Classification Program, and supervisory positions in Professional Development and patrol operations. He testified before the Canadian Senate Human rights and Legal issues Committee as an expert witness during the hearings on Bill C2, Tackling Violent Crime. He has completed a Police Leadership and Management Development program and holds a Masters Degree in Leadership Studies.
Rob is looking forward to working with the Board, staff, businesses, service groups and the residents of West Grey to support the community to achieve their collaborative goals. Rob’s focus in the coming months will be immersing himself in the community and getting to know the staff, residents, businesses and stakeholders so he has a strong understanding of the community policing needs. In accepting this position, Rob indicated “I believe community engagement and partnerships with a police service are essential to any community to ensure public safety. The police will be part of the community working with all of our partners to ensure West Grey remains a great place to live, work and play. I am excited by the passion of the Police Services Board hiring committee for its police service and I look forward to not only leading the West Grey Police Service but to becoming a member of a great municipality.”
The hiring committee was impressed with Rob’s knowledge of the organization, commitment to the West Grey community, and excitement for the future of West Grey Police Services demonstrated throughout the selection process. We look forward to having his energy, expertise, collaboration, and commitment to lead our staff team.
Rob will be joining us as Chief of Police on Thursday October 27th, 2016, and looks forward to relocating to West Grey in the coming year.
