Collision leads to impaired by drug charge as well as weapon and possession charges.

 

On October 1st 2018, at approximately 10:17pm the West Grey Police investigated a single motor vehicle collision in the village of Neustadt where a pickup truck had driven into a hydro pole.

As a result of that investigation the driver of the vehicle, a 43 year old Hanover man was found to be impaired by drug. Subsequently he was arrested and his vehicle was impounded for seven days as well as his driver’s licence was suspended for a period of 90 days. Further, the driver was found to be in possession of what is believed to be Heroine and over 150 grams of Cannabis. Careless driving charges were laid and once transported to the police station, the driver refused to provide a sample after a demand was made and consequently was charged with refuse to provide sample.

The vehicle passenger, a 49 year old woman from Hanover was jointly charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Further investigation lead to a tele warrant being executed on the vehicle involved and as a result weapons charges were laid after police recovered four long gun rifles in the vehicle.

Both the driver and passenger are in custody and will appear at the Walkerton Court on Friday October 5th.
