Between January 11th 2019 and January 18th 2019, the West Grey Police Service responded to 65 calls for service.
Stolen Property
On January 10th 2019, a property owner reported to the West Grey Police that there were two unknown trailers parked on the property. The West Grey Police attended the property on Forler Street in the former village of Neustadt, West Grey and recovered two stolen trailers. The subsequent investigation revealed another trailer in a barn on the property. On January 11th, the West Grey Police returned with a search warrant and recovered the stolen trailer along with a stolen trailer plate from the barn. The value of the trailers recovered totaled approximately $50,000. Police then issued arrest warrants for two individuals who had been renting the barn from the property owner and had been observed with the trailers. On January 17th the suspects were located and arrested by the West Grey Police. As a result, a 51-year-old female and a 47-year-old male, both of Waterloo, were each charged with two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000 and two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000. Both individuals are set to appear in court next month.
Warrants
On January 12th 2019, the West Grey Police arrested a 32-year-old West Grey man who was wanted on a warrant from an incident in December. On December 24th 2018, the accused male was driving a vehicle on Grey Road 6 in West Grey when he was involved in a single motor vehicle collision. When a passerby attempted to help the accused driver he told them not to call police and ran off, at which time the concerned citizen called the police. The accused was charged with Fail to Comply with Recognizance, Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Prohibited, two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order, Use Plate not Authorized for Vehicle, Driving with under Suspension, Careless Driving, Fail to Remain, Fail to Apply for Permit, and Permit Motor Vehicle to be Operated without Insurance.
Theft
The West Grey Police Service is investigating a theft of a trailer which occurred in the early morning hours of January 12th 2019. The trailer was stolen from a property in Grey Road 9 in West Grey and is described as a 24 foot enclosed car hauler grey in colour. The suspect(s) are believed to have used a white or silver pickup truck to steal the trailer.
