Collision Investigation
On May 14th 2019 at 11:00pm, West Grey Police Officers attended Concession 16 approximately one kilometer East of Grey Road 10 for a single motor vehicle that had struck a hydro pole. Upon police arrival, a 2002 Ford Ranger truck located with the airbags deployed. The driver of the vehicle had left the scene. Police located the registered owner of the vehicle who reports that the vehicle had been stolen. Police are continuing to investigate this suspicious matter and anyone involved or who may have information as to who was driving the vehicle is asked to call the West Grey Police at 519-371-6911 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 should you wish to remain anonymous.
Drive Safe Campaign / Canada Road Safety Week
Between May 14th and 20th 2019, West Grey Police joined the cross country enforcement campaign to promote safe driving. The campaign theme is “Distracted Driving Ruins Lives Drive Safe.” Several tickets were issued through the week with the goal of education through enforcement. The reduction of fatal and serious injury collisions continues to be a high priority for West Grey Police. Members of the public, drivers and pedestrians are reminded that road safety is a shared responsibility. Safety on the roads and highways is about being courteous to all road users.
Online Scams
On the 13th of May 2019, West Grey Police received a report of an online scam. The caller advised police that he had been contacted via Facebook and informed that he had won the lottery. The unknown scammer had told the victim that in order to receive his winnings, he would have to provide a copy of his driver’s license and his Facebook password. The victim complied and provided the information and immediately regretted the decision. The victim took proper action and notified police, Facebook and his financial institutions.
