On August 28th, 2019 the West Grey Police Service will be launching its partnership with the Canadian MedicAlert Foundation. The MedicAlert Connect Protect program will help police officers who are interacting with vulnerable people, including those who are living with autism, dementia, Alzheimer’s or other cognitive brain injuries. The Connect Protect program will also assist police officers in finding lost or missing vulnerable individuals and will ensure that they are quickly identified and brought back into the care of their loved ones.
The West Grey Police Service strives to use all tools available to keep those who are most vulnerable safe. In an emergency situation, where time is of the essence, MedicAlert Connect Protect gives police officers twenty-four hour access to a registered MedicAlert subscriber’s emergency profile which includes their photo, identity, physical characteristics and descriptions, attributes, wandering history, their caregivers information and any behaviour management strategies that may assist in dealing with specific anxiety triggers. This information will help police officers search for vulnerable persons more efficiently, and effectively and will increase the chances that those who go missing are reunited with their loved ones sooner. This vital information given to our officers who get dispatched to emergency situations involving a MedicAlert subscriber may even be necessary to save a life. The West Grey Police Service is proud to partner with MedicAlert Canada who is a not-for-profit organization and we will continue to use the most innovative ideas to insure that our community receives first class policing services.
The West Grey Police Service and MedicAlert team will host a registration and information day on August 28th 2019 from 9am to 2:30pm. The information booth will be stationed on Garafraxa Street South in front of the RBC Royal Bank (108 Garafraxa St. S, Durham.)
