Early morning impaired driver arrested

On Sunday, September 8th 2019 at approximately 8:00am, West Grey Police officers were given information that an impaired driver had just left an address in the Municipality of Southgate and was likely heading into Durham. Police located the suspect vehicle on Highway 6 and initiated a traffic stop. The male driver showed significant signs of impairment and was found to have open alcohol in the vehicle. The man was arrested and transported to the police station where he provided two breath samples registering twice the legally prescribed limit. Subsequent to police investigation, the 62 year old Durham man was charged with impaired operation and operation while having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 or over. The man’s driver’s license was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Pulling for Durham

Members of the West Grey Police Service where challenged with the question, if one person can make a difference, how much of an impact can ten people have? On Saturday September 7th 2019, The West Grey Police Service found out when their team of ten pulled a 54,000 pound fire truck to raise funds for the Durham Hospital. The event brought in $10,000 dollars’ worth of donations from the multiple teams and was a huge success. A massive thank you goes to the West Grey Fire Department for providing the truck and to the Hospital staff for making the event possible.

Bicycle Theft

On Thursday, September 5th 2019, police received report of a stolen bicycle from a George Street West residence in Durham. The victim stated that her grandsons bicycle had been stolen from their property sometime over the night.  The bike had a lock on it, however it was just attached to the bike and not locked to anything.  The black and orange bicycle is valued at approximately $275 and is described as a 29 inch “Viking Trail” made by “Hyper.” Police are reminding the public to always lock your bicycle in a secured area and that the West Grey Police Service offers a free online bicycle registry at www.westgreypolice.ca/bicycleregistry

Impaired / 80 or over / Assault

On Wednesday September 4th 2019 at 6:44pm, police were dispatched to the area of Concession 18 and Mulock Road in regards to an impaired driver who was travelling in a vehicle with a 15 year old passenger. The 15 year old had become afraid of the drivers actions and reported the incident. While reporting the incident, the driver became angry and struck the young passenger several times. The suspect then continued to drive to their destination which is where they were located by police. The suspect was arrested and brought to the police station where she provided a breath sample registering three times over the legal limit. Subsequent to police investigation, the 47 year old Normanby woman was charged with one count of assault one count of impaired operation and one of operation while having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 or over. The woman’s driver’s license was immediately suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for 7 days. The accused was processed and released with a September 18th court date out of the Walkerton Courthouse where she will answer to the charges.
