Refusal to provide a sample / Impaired Driving

On Friday September 20th 2019, at approximately 9:50pm, police were dispatched to attend a Grey Road 4 for a motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival, one of the drivers was found to have signs of impairment and as such, the male driver was arrested for impaired driving. The male was then transported to the police station where he was ordered to provide a breath sample but refused to do so. It was explained to the accused that refusing to provide a breath sample would carry the same consequences as if he was over the legal limit but continued to refuse.

Subsequent to police investigation, the 39 year old Hanover man was charged with one count of Operation While Impaired and one count of Refusal to Comply with Demand. The accused was processed and released on a promise to appear at the Walkerton Courthouse on October 9th 2019.

Manslaughter charges laid subsequent to overdoes investigation

On Friday, April 19th, 2019, shortly after 11:00am, West Grey Police officers responded to report of an overdose at a Normanby area residence. When police arrived, a 46 year old man was found deceased. Toxicology reports revealed that the man had suffered a drug overdose from Carfentanil.

Subsequent to a lengthy investigation, on the 19th day of September 2019, 34 year old Tyler Geiger of Harriston, Ontario, was arrested and charged with one count of Manslaughter and one count of Trafficking a Schedule 1 substance (Carfentanil.) The accused is being held in police custody until his scheduled appearance on the 20th day of September 2019.

“This incident demonstrated that the opioid crisis is in the Grey Bruce area and that law enforcement will work effectively with the community to prosecute those who are bringing the drugs into our communities,” said Chief Martin. “Drug trafficking will not be tolerated in the Municipality of West Grey and our members will continue to exert all resources needed in taking these drugs off of the streets. I applaud our frontline officers and investigators on their tireless efforts in keeping the Municipality of West Grey one of the safest in the province.”

Impaired Driving / 80 or Over

On Monday September 16th, 2019 at approximately 5:17pm, police were dispatched to attend Queen Street North in Durham were a woman had collided with another car after pulling into a driveway. Subsequent to police investigation, the accused woman was placed under arrest for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and was transported to the West Grey Police Station to provide a breath sample.

The woman provided the required breath samples which recorded readings of over twice the legally prescribed alcohol limit. Consequently, the 58 year old West Grey woman was charged with one count of Operation While Impaired and one count of Having a Blood Alcohol Concentration of 80 or Over. The accused was processed and later released on a Promise to appear with a October 2nd, 2019 court date out of the Walkerton Courthouse.

Fail to remain / Motorcycle Collision

On Sunday, September 22nd, 2019 at approximately 6:33pm, police responded to a call for service in the area of Grey Road 4 and Grey Road 3 regarding a traffic complaint. Police arrived on scene and spoke with the complainant who advised that he was operating a 1990 blue, Harley Davidson, Eastbound on Grey Road 4 approaching the intersection at Grey Road 3 when he saw a newer model, black Ford F150 pick-up Westbound on Grey Road 4 approaching Grey Road 3 as well. The pick-up truck abruptly turned left right into the motorcycles path and the rider made heavy brake application. The motorcycle rider swerved to avoid a collision but then lost control of his motorcycle. The rider suffered abrasions to his left elbow, and the motorcycle was damaged on both sides. Police are asking the driver of the Ford F150 or any witnesses of the collision to call the West Grey Police Service at 519-371-6911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Theft

On Wednesday the 18th day of September 2019 at 10:27am Police were dispatched to attend the Garafraxa Street LCBO where a male who is known to police had been observed stealing two bottles wine. At approximately 10:30am, police located the accused man walking Northbound on Garafraxa Street. Upon being approached by police the man began to run away and after a short foot chase, he was arrested and charged for theft under $5000.

The 22 year old Durham man was then transported to the West Grey Police station where he was processed and later released on conditions. The accused is set to appear at the Walkerton Courthouse on October 16th 2019 where he will answer to the charge.
