Sexual Assault

On Sunday, November 3rd, 2019 West Grey Police officers were advised of a serious assault that taken place a few days prior.  Subsequent to a police investigation, a 42 year old West Grey man has been charged with one count of Sexual Assault, One count of Uttering Threats to Cause Death and one count of Assault. The accused is was held for bail and was later released on conditions and a promise to appear on the 20th day of November at the Walkerton Courthouse where he will answer to the charges.

 

Impaired by Drugs

On Monday the 4th day of November 2019 at 6:46a.m, West Grey Police officers were dispatched to attend Garafraxa Street South near South Street for report of a motor vehicle collision that had occurred between a pickup truck and a dump truck. Investigation revealed that the driver of the pickup truck had pulled into the oncoming traffic lane and collided with the dump truck. None of the occupants of either of the vehicles sustained any injuries from the collision. After speaking with the driver of the pickup truck, it was suspected that the driver was under the influence of drugs. The investigating officer placed the male driver under arrest for Operation While Impaired and transported him to the West Grey Police Station where he was met by a DRE (Drug Recognition Expert.)

Subsequent to the evaluation, it was deemed that the male was in fact impaired by drug and consequently, the 47 year old Durham man was charged with one count of Operate Conveyance while Impaired by Alcohol or Drug and one count of Operating a Conveyance with a Blood/Drug concentration exceeding regulation. The accused’s driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for a period of seven days. The male was processed and was later released by way of a Promise to Appear. The accused is set to appear at the Walkerton Courthouse on November 20th, 2019 where he will answer to the charges. Despite numerous tragedies, whether by alcohol or drug people continue to be found operating vehicles while they are impaired. On suspicion of impairment, an officer can compel a driver to take a Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) or be tested by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). It is important to note that for G1, G2, commercial drivers and those under 21, no amount of cannabis is allowed to be in their system when driving. With the holiday season approaching, you can expect to see many RIDE programs being conducted across the Municipality. Our officers are trained and ready to detect impaired drivers and will continue to work with the community to combat impaired driving. Trespassing at Night

On Sunday November 3rd, 2019 shortly before midnight, West Grey Police responded to a report of a suspicious person on Varney Road.  Police located the man in question hiding in a bush and arrested him for Trespassing at Night.  The accused was also found to also be in breach of conditions of a previous release issued by a different jurisdiction.  The 30 year old West Grey man was held for a bail hearing and later remanded in custody where he remains.  After the arrest, police were advised of a vehicle that had been broken into on the same roadway and further investigation revealed that the man was in possession of the property which had been stolen from the vehicle. The stolen property was returned to its rightful owner and the accused was charged accordingly.

 

 

Missing Person / Fail to Comply

On November 4th, 2019, police received reports that a male was in breach of his release conditions after failing to be inside of his residence between the specified hours. Further information gave officers concern for the man’s safety after it was learned that the man had consumed drugs and fled into a dense forested area.  Police searched throughout the night for the man who was located on November 5th. The 29 year old Durham man was brought to the hospital and later surrendered to the West Grey Police Service where he was charged with two counts of failing to comply with a recognizance. He will appear at the Walkerton Courthouse on

 

Bail Violations

On Tuesday November 5th, 2019 police were advised that an individual who was on conditions to remain with his surety had left their West Grey residence in the overnight hours and was driving an un-plated pickup truck.  Subsequent to a police investigation, the 29 year old Durham man was located and arrested for failing to comply with the condition of his recognizance. The accused was held for a bail hearing and was remanded into custody until Wednesday November 13th when he will answer to the charges out of the Walkerton Courthouse.

 

Break and Enter

On Tuesday November 5th, 2019 just before 01:00am, Police were called to attend a Concession 8 residence where a resident had woken up to his dog barking. He got out of bed to let the dog out and discovered that the man door to his garage was open and that someone had stolen several items from inside. The resident quickly called police and began a register of stolen items which included a green 2013 Polaris Sportsman 90cc, a gas powered 1000 watt king Canada generator, a weed eater and six Toyo open country WLT1 tires. The victim further advised that a large sum of cash was stolen along with Passports, health card, and SIN cards. The victim tells police that his drive shed was also been entered and that the snow blower attachment for his riding lawn mower as well as his utility trailer had been taken.
