Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle

A 19 year old West Grey woman was arrested and charged on Thursday after she was confronted on Baseline Road by homeowners who caught her damaging their mailbox. When one of the homeowners attempted to keep her at the scene while waiting for police by standing in front of her vehicle, she drove into him causing him to land on the hood of the vehicle. The woman then sped off at a high rate of speed with the man on still on her hood. Eventually, the woman brought her vehicle to a stop and the man was able to get off without incurring any injury. The woman was located at a later date and was arrested and charged with one count of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle. The accused was released on conditions and is set to appear at the Walkerton Courthouse on the 8th day of January 2020 where she will answer to the charge. Anyone who may have witnessed the event is asked to contact the West Grey Police Service at 519-371-6911.

Twenty-three collisions reported over 7 day period

West Grey Police officers have investigated 23 motor vehicle collisions over the past seven days resulting in numerous charges being laid. A significant amount of the collisions reported involved weather and wild life as contributing factors. Most skids result from driving too fast for road conditions. To avoid a skid on a slippery road, drive at a reduced speed and operate the vehicle’s controls in a smooth and constrained manner. If your vehicle begins to skid, try not to panic — it is possible to maintain control of your vehicle, even in a skid. Ease off on the accelerator or brake and on a very slippery surface slip the transmission into neutral if you can. Continue to steer in the direction you wish to go. Be careful not to oversteer. Once you regain control, you can brake as needed, but very gently and smoothly. Police are asking that commuters give themselves extra time to arrive to their destinations so that we all have a safe and happy holiday season.

A collision on Grey Road 10 resulted with charges being laid against a 59 year old Hanover resident. On Friday the 6th day of December, officers were dispatched after a driver lost control of his pickup truck and rolled the vehicle into the ditch. West Grey Fire Department and Grey County EMS were quick on scene to provide immediate assistance to the lone occupant who was remarkably not injured. An odour of alcohol could be smelled coming from the driver and he was ordered to provide police with a breath sample. Investigation revealed that the driver’s blood alcohol content was over 0.05 and consequently, his driver’s licence was suspended at the roadside for three days. The driver is also accused of careless driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and was issued a provincial offence notice.
