On May 10, 2020 West Grey Police were dispatched to a group home located on Victoria St in Ayton. Unknown culprit(s) made three separate attempts to start fires near the residence. Two attempts were to a shed on the property and one attempt was to a mattress near the shed.  This matter is still under investigation.   If you witnesses any suspicious activity in the area or have information about either of these incidents please contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or West Grey Police at 519-371-6911.

 

On May 9, 2020 West Grey Police received an attempted  fraud report from an elderly female residing in Durham.  She was asked to purchase $1000.00 worth of Google Play cards  by a phone scammer claiming to be a representative from  her bank.  West Grey PS has seen this scam before and we can’t emphasize  strongly  enough that your financial institution will not ask you to make a purchase to confirm any suggested compromise of your accounts or financial cards.

 

On May 12, 2020 West Grey Police received a report of another attempted fraud, this one a call from someone purporting to be with Publisher’s Clearing House and requesting money be sent so the prize could be claimed.  Publisher’s Clearing House is legitimate but will never phone a winner.  All contact with winners is made by certified mail or in person and the prize is included.  There is never an upfront  fee to collect your prize.

 

On May 12, 2020 West Grey Police responded to a break and enter at a building under renovation located north of Durham on Highway 6.  Unknown culprit(s) pried open a door and stole almost 10,000.00 worth of property.  Included was a tool chest with tools, power tools, a generator, a CO2 pistol, CO2 revolver, an air rifle, TV and alcohol.  If you have any information about this incident  please contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or West Grey Police Service at 519-371-6911.

 

West Grey Police Service laid charges under the Trespass to Property Act against  a number of individuals found at Allan Park Conservation area over the May 7-10 weekend.  All SVCA owned properties are currently closed and anyone found on their properties will be charged accordingly
