On Friday May 15, 2020 West Grey Poli8ce were advised of a break and enter at a residence on Road 49.  Sometime during that day unknown culprit(s) entered the house through an unlocked side door and stole a 18 volt DeWalt drill with two batteries and charger as well as a Mastercraft tool box containing assorted tools.  On Monday May 18, 2020 police responded with Ayton fire fighters to a suspicious vehicle fire.  Investigation revealed the vehicle had been stolen earlier from a business in Cambridge.  There are no suspects at this time. 

On Saturday May 17, 2020 a seasonal property owner on Concession 12 NDR reported that sometime since October 2019 unknown person(s) stole a homemade ATV trailer, a child’s scooter and a diesel fire can.  They also did damage to a trap enclosed storage setup.   

On Monday May 18, 2020 a farmer on Concession 6 NDR reported the theft of a 9 x 20’ hay wagon from a location on Grey Rd 3. On May 21, 2020 police were contacted by a Durham resident who had fallen victim to a scam.  The 34 yr old male was threatened with the release of intimate photos and death if he did not pay up.  The victim lost $500.00 to the scammer.  West Grey Police urge residents to contact police before sending money or purchasing gift cards where threats of any kind are involved. 

On May 21, 2020 West Grey Police responded to a family dispute in Ayton.  A 19 year old male from Breslau was arrested and charged with  assault with a weapon and mischief.  He was later released on conditions not to contact his brother, who was the victim of the assault.  He will appear in court in July to answer to the charges.


May 12-May 18 was Road Safety Week.  West Grey PS conducted random RIDE checks over the period and are pleased there were no alcohol or drug related driving offences resulting from the RIDE checks.
