On June 25th, 2020, just after 9:00 pm, West Grey Police responded to a single motor vehicle collision in the area of Concession 2 NDR and Grey Road 3. During the investigation it was determined that the driver of the vehicle had consumed alcohol. As a result of the investigation a 20 y/o male from Hanover was charged with operation while impaired and blood alcohol concentration 80mgs or more. The male is to appear in court on July 15th, 2020, his driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

The West Grey Police Service remains committed to road safety through prevention, education and enforcement initiatives. Members of the public are reminded that driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol is a crime in progress and to call 9-1-1 immediately to report a suspected impaired driver.

 

On June 26, 2020 West Grey Police were notified about an assault that occurred just after midnight. The victim was punched repeatedly by her husband during a domestic dispute. Officers located the suspect and he was charged with assault and released on conditions which include no contact with the victim.  A first appearance date was set for July in Walkerton court.

 

On June 29, 2020 West Grey Police were advised that a motorcycle was travelling unsafely in the area of Albert St S in Durham.  Officers located the motorcycle and found it was bearing an altered validation sticker.  The driver was under suspension and the motorcycle was uninsured.  The motorcycle was impounded and the driver was charged accordingly.

 

On June 29, 2020 West Grey Police attended at the Middle Dam in Durham in response to a weapons call. Police located a youth firing a pellet gun and the pellet gun was seized and the youth cautioned.  In what is likely an unrelated incident police were advised about damage to a downtown business window that may have been caused by a pellet.  That incident took place the night of June 26, 2020 and is still under investigation.

 

On June 29,2020 West Grey Police officers located a heavily intoxicated male on Bruce St N in Durham.  He was transported to the station and lodged in a cell until sober and able to care for himself.  He was issued a Provincial Offences Notice for being Intoxicated in a Public Place.

 

     On July 1st, 2020, at 10:24am officers were called to a possible impaired driver operating a vehicle eastbound on Grey Road 4. Officers located the vehicle in a parking lot in Durham.  The responding officer spoke to the driver who displayed signs of being impaired by a drug. During the arrest the officers located a significant amount of prescription pills in the driver’s possession along with a considerable amount of cash. The male was transported to Saugeen Shores Police Service where the man was assessed by a Drug Recognition Expert.  As a result of the examination the man was charged with impaired driving – by drug. A 35 year old Walkerton man has been charged with Operation while Impaired by alcohol and/or drug, Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of Trafficking and Failure to Comply with Release Order.  His vehicle has been impounded for 7 days and his driver’s licence suspended for 90 days. He was released on an Undertaking with a court date.
