On Friday September 25th 2020, West Grey Police Service entered into an investigation after a male attended both the Hanover and West Grey Police stations and uttered death threats towards police officers. The male party fled before he could be taken into custody.
Police located the male a short time later after he fled in a vehicle from a West Grey residence. The suspect engaged the police in a pursuit and attempted to run the police vehicles off the road. The pursuit was terminated for public safety reasons at this point.
A short time later the vehicle was observed in the Town of Hanover. Police strategically followed the vehicle until sufficient police resources were available to effect a stop in a safe location. A tire deflation device was deployed in an effort to stop the vehicle. The suspect drove directly at West Grey officer located on the roadway. After striking the tire deflation device the suspect turned his vehicle around and rammed a West Grey Police vehicle causing extensive damage to the cruiser. Officers were then able to take the male into custody.
A 43 year old Ferndale male is charged with Attempt Murder, Assault with a Weapon, Dangerous Driving, Utter Threats X2, Flight from Peace Officer X2. The male is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
