During the week of September 23 – 30, 2021, the West Grey Police Service responded to 74 total calls for service.
Officers responded to 7 Traffic Complaints / Enforcements with 6 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 15 Police Assistance and 3 Suspicious Persons Complaints. Officers prevented Breach of the Peace at 3 calls and attended at 5 Family / Domestic Disputes. Police provided assistance and de-escalation at 8 Mental Health Act calls while also responding to 2 – 911 calls and assisting ambulance or fire 2 times. West Grey Police also removed 4 unwanted persons/trespass to property calls.
September 26, 2021 – Impaired Driving Arrest – On Sunday September 26, 2021 police received a driving complaint on Hwy 6 south of Varney. WGPS located the vehicle and driver. A road side alcohol test was administered and the driver failed. The driver was arrested and underwent breathalyzer tests that were over twice the legal limit. A 29-year-old male from Durham was charged with Impaired Driving and Drive over 80. He will appear in Walkerton Court at a later date. His car was impounded and a mandatory driver’s license suspension was served.
September 28, 2021 – Fail to Stop for Police – On Tuesday September 28, 2021 West Grey Police along with Hanover Police attempted to stop a motorcycle with no plates on Grey Road 4. When emergency lights and siren were activated the driver failed to stop fleeing the area at a high rate of speed. For public safety reasons no pursuit was initiated. A short time later the motorcycle and driver were located with the help of the public. The 40-year-old male driver from Mount Forest was arrested and charged with multiple offences. He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Walkerton in November.
September 29, 2021 – Break and Enter – Between 9:00 pm and 7:00 am suspects committed a Break and Enter to a commercial property on Garafraxa Street, Durham. Stolen was a quantity of “Glassware” smoking paraphernalia. This incident is currently under investigation by our Criminal Investigations Unit and Uniformed Operations while we review street video of the crime.
