During the weeks of October 21 to November 4, 2021, the West Grey Police Service responded to 145 total calls for service.

Officers responded to 16 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 32 Police Assistance and 17 Suspicious Persons Complaints. Officers prevented Breach of the Peace at 2 calls and attended at 5 Family / Domestic Disputes. Police provided assistance and de-escalation at 8 Mental Health Act calls while also responding to 6 – 911 calls.

October 23, 2021 – Impaired Driving Arrest – On Saturday October 23, 2021 police received a driving complaint on Bruce Road 10 from OPP.  WGPS located the vehicle and driver.  The driver was arrested and underwent breathalyzer tests that were nearly 3 times the legal limit.  A 27-year-old male from Durham was charged with Impaired Driving and Drive over 80.  He will appear in Walkerton Court at a later date.  His car was impounded and a mandatory driver’s license suspension was served.

October 26, 2021 – Assault / Breach / Threats –   On Tuesday October 26, 2021 West Grey Police were called to Ayton in response to an Assault.  When police arrived, the suspect had fled the scene.  An arrest warrant was issued for the suspect.  On Wednesday November 3, 2021 the suspect was located and arrested on the strength of the West Grey Warrant.

A 41-year old male remains in custody and is charged with;

  1. Break and Enter
  2. Assault with a Weapon
  3. Assault
  4. Utter Threats
  5. Fail to Comply with Probation Order (X2)

October 31, 2021 – Drug Trafficking – On Sunday, October 31, 2021 following a month long investigation by the West Grey Police Services – Criminal Investigations Unit a search warrant was executed leading to the seizure of a large quantity of Fentanyl, Crystal Methamphetamine and Cannabis.  The drugs taken off the street have a value of approximately $ 20,000.

A 29-year-old male from West Grey was arrested and charged with;

  1. Possession of Fentanyl for the purpose of Trafficking,
  2. Possession of Methamphetamine for the purpose of Trafficking
  3. Possession of Cannabis for the purpose of distribution.

The accused was transported to West Grey Police Headquarters where he was processed and held for a Bail Hearing where he remains in custody.

The West Grey Police Service – Criminal Investigations Unit continue to investigate the Theft of 2 Motor Vehicles that occurred between October 27 -29, 2021 in Bentinck Township.
