During the month of June West Grey Police Service responded to 477 calls for service, these included ambulance assists, property crime, armed robberies, a break and enter in progress and impaired driving complaints.

Break and Enter in Progress
At approximately 3:09am officers completing proactive patrol in the Durham downtown area observed a suspicious vehicle parked at a business. At 3:13am officers noticed an insecure door at the rear of the business, less than a minute later an audible alarm could be heard coming from inside the business and police observed a male wearing black clothing inside the business.
At approximately 03:15 hours police blocked in the suspect vehicle using two Police cruisers. Police then entered the business through the open entrance. No individual was located inside. An additional search of the building as well as the fenced property and perimeter was conducted with negative results.
The suspect vehicle was subsequently seized and transported back to West Grey Police Service. A search of the vehicle was conducted and photographed. Several items were located and seized by police.
On June 10th, 2025 the accused male in the break and enter was arrested by police in relation to a separate occurrence. The accused was then arrested again and as a result, a 37-year-old West Grey man faces 27 charges, including:
Adult – Break and Enter with Intent to Commit
Adult – Disguise with Intent
Adult – Possession of Break In Instruments
Adult – Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
Adult – Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
Adult – Failure to Comply with Release Order
The male was seen before the Ontario Court of Justice Walkerton at a later date and remains in custody.
June 10th, 2025
Armed Robbery
On June 10, 2025 at approximately 4:45pm West Grey Police were dispatched to a robbery in progress at the Northern Credit Union in Durham.
Preliminary investigation revealed that four male suspects, all dressed in black clothing with masks exited a dark SUV and entered the financial institution. Once inside, one suspect brandished a machete and another, a hand gun. The suspects demanded and obtained an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the scene and travelling southbound at a high rate of speed. No injuries were reported.
After much investigation and close partnership with our surrounding police services, West Grey Police was able to identify, arrest and charge the following suspects:
A 14-year-old male of Mississauga
A 16-year-old of Wasaga Beach
A 17-year-old male of Mississauga
A 17-year-old male of Brampton
All four youths have been charged with the following offences:
YPC – Armed Robbery
YPC – Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
YPC – Disguise with Intent
YPC – Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
YPC – Possession of Property Obtained By Crime Over $5,000
Several individual charges were also laid for failure to comply with release orders and other offences.
All four youths will be seen before the Ontario Court of Justice Walkerton at a later date.
June 15th, 2025
Traffic Complaint – Police Pursuit
On June 15th, 2025 at approximately 10:00pm police received a report of an erratic driver on Highway 6. The suspect vehicle was located a short time later by police in the parking lot of a Durham business.
Police attempted a traffic stop in the parking lot of the business and once their emergency lights were activated, the driver of the suspect vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed and failed to stop for police. The suspect was observed by officers to be operating their vehicle in a manner that was wholly unsafe to the public and the pursuit of the vehicle was terminated.
Police reattended the business and viewed CCTV footage that confirmed the identity of the suspect male and the vehicle he was operating. As a result of this investigation a 42-year-old male of Arthur was charged with the following:
Adult – Class G1 License Holder – Unaccompanied by Qualified Driver
Ault – Dangerous Operation of a Vehicle
Adult – Careless Driving
Adult – Flight From a Peace Officer
The male was released by way of Undertaking and will be seen before the Ontario Court of Justice Walkerton at a later date.
June 28th, 2025
911 Abandoned Line
On June 28th, 2025 at approximately 1:40am police received a 911 call that had no voice contact, the only sounds heard were that of a woman screaming. Police were able to locate the address of the owner of the phone and attended her residence.
At this residence a 23-year-old male from West Grey was located, arrested and charged with the following:
Adult – Assault Spousal
Adult – Domestic Mischief
Adult – Failure to Comply with Probation
This male was seen before the Ontario Court of Justice Walkerton at a later date and was remanded into custody, where he remains.
