During the month of July West Grey Police Service responded to 503 calls for service, these included assaults, family disputes, frauds and mental health calls.
July 11th, 2025
Break and Enter In Progress
On July 11th, 2025 at approximately 2:00am while conducting proactive patrol in Bentinck township police observed a suspicious ATV in the area of the Municipal Shed and Bentinck Landfill. There had been on-going fuel thefts in the area. Police heard a loud ATV in the area and attended the landfill entrance where it was observed that the gate lock had been cut. Police entered the landfill to search for the unknown parties and once their presence was known an ATV was observed fleeing from the landfill at a high rate of speed. The ATV collided with the closed entrance gate and police cruiser parked behind the gate and both riders were thrown from the ATV. One of the occupants attempted to flee on foot from officers but was stopped by police after a brief foot pursuit.
As a result a 27-year-old male of West Grey was arrested and charged with the following:
Adult – Break and Enter
Adult – Flight from Peace Officer
Adult – Theft Under $5000
Adult – Mischief
Adult – Operation While Prohibited
Adult – Failure to Comply with Release Order
Adult – Failure to Comply with Probation Order
A 32-year-old female of Owen Sound was also charged with the following:
Adult – Break and Enter
The female was released by way of Undertaking and was seen before the Ontario Court of Justice Walkerton at a later date. The male was remanded into custody and later released by the Ontario Court of Justice.
July 13th, 2025
Stunt Driving and Dangerous Operation
On July 13th, 2025 at approximately 12:30pm police were on a proactive patrol in the area of Irish Lake. Police had been attending the area after an uptick in speeding complaints from residents. While travelling northbound police observed a vehicle operating at a high rate of speed in the 40 km/hr zone. Police confirmed speeds of over 80km/hr with use of their mobile radar.
Police began to follow the vehicle in an attempt to stop it. However, it was clear the driver was attempting to evade police as their speeds exceeded 170 km/hr and their driving was observed to be dangerous to public safety. The vehicle was smoking and leaking an unknown liquid when police located it.
The vehicle entered a laneway nearby and police followed it. Two male passengers quickly exited the vehicle with another male attempting to move seats from the driver’s seat to the front passenger seat while inside the vehicle.
Eventually the driver did admit he was behind the wheel, and as a result a 19-year-old male from West Grey has been charged with the following:

The male was released with a Promise to Appear and was seen before the Provincial Offences Court at a later date.
July 15th, 2025
Intimate Partner Violence
On July 15th, 2025 at approximately 9:00am a victim attended the West Grey Police Service to report an assault. Police spoke with the victim and witness extensively and were advised that in the early morning hours a domestic incident had occurred at an address in Normanby township.
A verbal disagreement occurred around 2:00am and when the victim attempted to leave the residence in a friend’s vehicle. The accused attended the vehicle, removed the victim’s seat belt and attempted to remove the victim from the vehicle. When the accused’s efforts proved futile, the accused stole the victim’s phone and retreated. As the victim and witness were attempting to leave the property the accused jumped on the hood of the victim’s vehicle and began pounding on the glass and screaming at the victim and witness. The accused was removed from the hood of the vehicle and in that ordeal assaulted the victim and the witness further.
The victim and witness were able to flee the property to safety and remained there for the night before attending West Grey Police Service and reporting the assaults.
As a result of the investigation a 20-year-old male from West Grey was arrested and charged with the following:
Adult – Assault Spousal x2
Adult – Theft Under $5,000
Adult – Assault
The accused was released by way of Undertaking and was seen before the Ontario Court of Justice Walkerton at a later date.
July 25th, 2025
Uttering Threats
On July 25th, 2025 police were called to an address in Glenelg township for reports of the homeowner being threatened with a knife. Police arrived on scene and within minutes had arrested a male who had previously been a guest of the homeowner.
As a result of this occurrence a 43-year-old male from West Grey was charged with the following:
Adult – Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
Adult – Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
The accused was released by way of Undertaking and was seen before the Ontario Court of Justice Walkerton at a later date.
